You might think it sounds silly. You might think you’re too young to think about death. You might even think you won’t have to worry about death for a long time. But one thing is for certain. We all WILL die. Question is, what will happen to you when you die?

You might like to think you are basically a good person. We all would like to think that. I mean, we have lots of friends who care about us and like to be with us. That makes us good people, right? Well, not exactly. Think about it. Have you ever told a little white lie? That makes you a liar. Have you ever stolen anything, maybe even as simple as stealing time on the clock while at work. That makes you a thief.

Still think you are a good person?

You see, no matter how good we may think we are, everyone of us has blown it according to God’s standards. And not matter how hard we try to do good to get back on track with His standards, it still will never be good enough for God to let us into heaven when we die. God’s standard is perfection, and one little error and it is never perfect again. The Bible says that you are spiritually dead in your sins. You cannot live a good, morally perfect life on your own accord.

Jesus says in Matthew 10:28 that we are not to fear man, but rather that we are to “fear Him who is able to destroy both body and soul in Hell.” Our sins deserve to be punished for all eternity. And if you do not come to Christ, they will be. The Bible says that “the wages of sin is death” in Romans 6:23. Your sin and wickedness earns a payment of spiritual death in Hell for eternity.

Do you see the problem here? You will never get to Heaven by anything that you do! But indeed, you don’t have to work to get to Heaven. The work has already been done for you about 2,000 years ago when Jesus died on the cross. While there is bad news, the Bible tells us that God loved the world so much that He Himself came down to earth to live the perfect life that you couldn’t live! That’s good news!

Because of Christ’s death on the cross, you can have eternal life. Jesus told us how to have eternal life in Mark 1:15, where He said: “Repent, and believe in the Gospel.” Jesus says that there are only two things you must understand to be saved.

First, you must repent of your sin. To repent means that you change you thoughts, attitudes and actions about your sin. In mathematical terms, if you are going in one direction, to repent means that you are going 180 degrees in the exact opposite way. To repent of your sin means that you acknowledge that Jesus is Lord of your life and that you are willing to conform your actions and thoughts to His Word.

Second, Jesus says that you must believe in the Gospel. The Gospel is simply the good news that Christ died on the cross as payment in full for the debt that you owed because of your sin. And if you come in love, putting your full trust in what Christ has done for you on the cross, you will go to heaven when you die.

The Bible says in Romans 10:13 that “everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.” Everyone includes even you. You haven’t done anything so bad that you have blown it for good. God loves you and is willing to reveal Himself to you in a personal, saving relationship with Him if you will only give up everything that you are holding on to in this life and come to Him in faith, fully seeking after Him in love.

The Bible says you must count the cost. It is not enough to simply say a simple prayer and walk away with no change in your life and pretend that everything is okay now. You must come to faith in Christ and you also must change your wicked actions. You must give up everything that you once loved and enjoyed that was sinful. Jesus said in Luke 9:61-62 that anyone who isn’t willing to do that is not fit to be His disciple.

Right now, Jesus is calling you to be saved. If you have a desire to repent of your sins and come to trust Christ alone for salvation, then I would love to talk to you.
